This cookbook is comprised of some of our family’s favorite German cookies and cake recipes. Having lived in Germany for four years as a child myself, I have tried to pass on the love of the country and its traditions to my family. My children are the fourth-generation born in the U.S.A. and have all fully embraced their German heritage.
We would like to share these delicious favorites with you in the hopes that you will enjoy them as much as our family. While many of them are described as Christmastime treats, don’t be afraid to enjoy them year round!

Please note that I do not claim these recipes are 'authentic'. Rather, they are streamlined creations that evoke the feeling of German, Bavarian, and Swiss recipes.

...I watched my German wife baked with love and care over the past 32 years. She'd spend a good 2 days solid baking and giving them away to others to brighten their winter day. And I've come to the realization that when I got stationed in Germany, I realized what I didn't know or missed the boat about good cooking and baking. I was missing the big picture.

And this book does not miss the big picture and rather warmly embraces the art of German Baking in truly simplistic way.

The book sent me through a journey back to Bavaria and the re-visiting the quaint but awesome Bakeries filled with the unsurpassed art of presentation. You can scan and choose the specific baked items with care. Do stop by at the "Lebkuchen" or Honey Cookies and try your hand at 2 dozen of the best tasting cookies in 20 minutes. Don't venture far from another favorite of mine: German Apple Cake, apples prepared like no other. Lastly, don't forget a cup of hot coffee to complete your German traditional treat.

My wife could easily commercialize her baking but she prefers not to. The reward comes from giving and this "pay it forward' act endures over the year.

Really good German baking does have many great ingredients but it has as its main ingredients--- love and care that keeps repeating itself.

Stephanie over-delivers in this book of some 32 delicious and captivating recipes.

I'll give this book a well-deserved "5 star" for not only the subject matter but for the experience of rekindling good memories.

American Traditions German Baking for the Holidays edition by Stephanie D Berg Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews

If you are interested in German baking this is a good start. The recipes are simple, with easy to follow directions and easily acquired Ingredients.
I loved this book. I had been searching for German recipes for ions. My family rarely, if ever, wrote their recipes down and I really wanted to make some of my favorites from the past. I thank the author AND for making it available.
This is such a great Recipe book. I love to try different recipes and from different countries. I miss my Aunts cooking which was Norwegian. The recipes are just what I needed to get back to basics. Thank you so much for giving us some of your traditions.
This book was an excelent addition to my colection of cook books. While the title says "for the holidays" I believe that the recipes in this book are to be used everyday.
I would recomend this book to anyone who loves to bake and who enjoys the flavor of good food.
In the early 1960's we had a German friend - a woman in her 80's. We used to visit her and she played the piano and served us an assortment of German cookies that she baked. We loved her stories of growing up in Germany, marrying and moving with her husband to settle in Australia and then years later moving to the United States. We never called ahead to let her know when we were visiting but she always had cookies. I have always wished I had written her recipes down so when I saw this book, I had to have it! I have read ALL of the book and it will be cherished.
I swear, I am going to stop buying new dessert cookbooks because each one has at least a few recipes I can't resist trying. In this collection of German traditional recipes, my nemesis were Coconut Macaroons, Hazelnut Cake and Apple Cake - especially since the Apple Cake is a favorite in my family, so I will test this recipe out on the clan. I don't know much about German cooking or baking - but if these recipes are typical of the food, I should stay away from Germany or I'll gain another 20 pounds! Wonderful sounding recipes and I can't wait to bake!
Author Stephanie Berg has compiled an outstanding of collection of German recipes in her cookbook American Traditions German Baking for the Holidays. Her recipe collection ranges from German-style Coconut Macaroons to German Strawberry Cake.

German Cut-Out Cookies
German Christmas Cookies
German Loaf Cookies
Upside Down German Chocolate Cake
German Nut Stollen

The author clearly states the recipes may not be authentic but are streamlined creations that evoke the feeling of German-style cooking.

Recommend.
